Quality of life the driver of IoT projects

What’s it like when IT and the Internet of Things move into public healthcare? The researcher Andres Laya has investigated the interaction between IT companies and the public healthcare systems. The starting point for companies is often that IoT is used to streamline and save money. From the public health care’s perspective, however, the driver turned out to be the ability to improve the quality of life of the individual.

Andres Laya has performed the research at KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, as a Ph.D. thesis, and works as a researcher at Ericsson. The thesis, which Laya defended 27 September 2017, is titled ”The Internet of Things in Health, Social Care, and Wellbeing” and can be downloaded here.

The thesis has been a part of the project ”IoT Ecosystems” funded by Vinnova through IoT Sweden.
