Call for new IoT hubs

Do you have an idea of solutions for the challenges in the public sector? Does your idea include Internet of Things, IoT? If this applies to your idea, you can participate in our current call. The call is part of the strategic innovation programme IoT Sweden.

The programme is focusing on supporting socially beneficial IoT projects that show of and spread their results, and create growth in the public sector. The strategic innovation programme IoT Sweden is part of the Swedish innovation agency Vinnova, Swedish Energy Agency and Formas’ joint venture in strategic innovation areas.

The goal of this call is that:

  • The projects should be world leaders in the use of IoT to face challenges in the public sector.

  • The projects should develop into IoT hubs which are projects that are guiding principles, which are exposed, create a lot of attention, getting additional funding and work actively with spreading project results to other public organisations.

  • Strengthen the international competitiveness of participating companies.

To apply for this call, you need to:

  • Be a consortium with least three actors whereof one is from the public sector (municipality, region, etc.), one company, and one actor with good knowledge of IoT (company, university, etc.)

  • Be planning the project with the public organisation as problem owner and project coordinator.

  • Identify a problem area within the public sector where IoT  can streamline and create value.

  • Have co-funding of 50 % from participating problem owner and companies.

What you can get:

  • Maximum funding from Vinnova for each of the projects is SEK 12 over a time period of three years.

  • Support from the programme office of IoT Sweden.

  • Exchange of experience and support from the other IoT hubs which have been financed by IoT Sweden.


  • All applications are competing with each other.

  • A spread in problem areas will be sought with the purpose to complete current IoT hubs‘ problem areas. New problem areas will be prioritised.

  • How well the actors in the consortium complement each other.

  • How likely it is to implement the solution, its results and innovative value, and the possibility to spread project results and teachings to other public organisations.


  • Call opens November 7:th 2017 and closes March 13:th 2018.

  • We aim to get the project started in mid-May 2018.
